Weekly News September 22, 2023
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Thank you so much to everyone who came out and volunteered to help with our Terry Fox Run. As usual, it is your generosity that allows us to enhance student learning and experience. Without you, we would not have been able to pull off such a fabulous time. I loved watching our students running, walking, laughing and talking their way around the loop at Munroe Park with their cheeks getting redder and redder with each lap. The showed perseverance and strength-way to go Mount View!
Informational Items:
Please also note that dogs are not to be on school grounds. If you wish to walk to the school with your pet, please ensure that s/he is left off of school grounds and that you pick up any mess that s/he makes. Our students love to run wild and free during school at recess time and stepping in doggie doo is a sure fire way to make play less fun. Thank you!
Attached you will notice a letter explaing a survey that students will answer concerning how they feel at school. They will be completing this at school during school time.
Enrichment Fridays
We are thrilled to share that the launch of Enrichment Fridays starts on October 6th . Enrichment Fridays represent a unique and exciting opportunity for Mount View students to delve into their passions and interests beyond the confines of the regular classroom. This opportunity offers a time on Fridays where students can partake in cross-curricular learning experiences, enriching their education and forging connections across various curriculum areas.
We have scheduled two rounds of Enrichment celebrations this year, one in February and another in May. During these celebrations, students will have the chance to showcase their learning processes and the products of their exploration to their parents. We extend an open invitation to all parents to join us on these special days. More detailed information will be provided closer to the celebration dates.
Please know that you will receive a separate school messenger communication on Monday, September 24th to support your child in selecting their Enrichment Friday activities. We kindly request that you set aside some time to complete the survey by Wednesday, September 27th. Your support in this process is greatly appreciated.
Demographic and Consent Forms
Please complete these annual forms online, through your MyCBE/Powerschool account, opening the SchoolEngage app for the forms. Current contact information and consent helps us stay connected with you and keep your child safe. If you don’t have an account yet, please consider creating one, it is an extremely useful tool for many school-related activities. Thank you for your help.
Volunteering at school and for Field Trips
We always appreciate parents taking time to volunteer their time for school activities and are grateful for the parent community for strengthening the connections with the school. If you are interested in volunteering, please register with the school by filling the Annual Volunteer Registration Form. Please connect with Ms. Gabriela for further information regarding the process via email: galaszlo@cbe.ab.ca.
During the school year, students might also take part in activities outside of the school grounds, within walking distance. For details about these field trips, please see the Walking Distance Trips Annual Letter on the Mount View School Off-Site Activities page.
School Fees
School fees can be paid through your MyCBE/Powerschool account, opening the fee app.
The Student Supply Fee, Lunch supervision fee and Transportation fee (if your child takes the school bus) are considered central fees (same for all students in CBE) and will be activated mid-October. If your child is staying at school for the lunch hour, they are attending the lunch program – please register them for this on your fee page, using the icon on the bottom of the page.
Clothing Donations
Jacket Racket has been providing clean, gently used winter jackets to Calgary children since the 1980’s. The project runs every year from mid-October to mid-November. Coats, snow pants, hats and mittens are collected, sorted and distributed by a group of dedicated volunteers. The distribution is done through the Calgary Board of Education and the Calgary Catholic School District.
You can drop off your donations just inside the front doors of the school, through the month of October. We are looking for a volunteer, who can drive the donations to the drop off location on November 3, 2023, between 10am-12pm. Please contact the office for more details. Thank you!
