Hello Mount View School Families,

At Mount View, every week is filled with moments that remind us what makes our school community so special. From students discovering new strengths and friendships growing on the playground, to acts of kindness, perseverance, and curiosity in our classrooms, each day brings opportunities to learn and connect. These experiences help shape not only academic growth, but also confidence, character, and belonging. As we reflect on the week, we are grateful for the students, families, and staff who make Mount View such a caring and vibrant place to learn. Thank you for being part of our journey and the many meaningful moments we create together.

Safety & Supervision at Mount View School

After careful consideration, we have decided not to continue the School Patrol program this year. While we value the leadership opportunities patrols can provide, the program requires a significant amount of instructional time each day, as well as dedicated supervision to ensure it operates safely.

In addition, the primary student crossing area is located directly in front of the school and is not a controlled crosswalk, which means we are unable to utilize student patrols at that location.

At this time, we believe it is most important to prioritize staff supervision in front of the school and throughout our school grounds to support student safety before and after school.

We remain committed to providing meaningful leadership opportunities for our students. Our Grade 4, 5, and 6 teams are currently planning a variety of leadership opportunities within the school, and we look forward to sharing more information about these opportunities in the coming weeks.

Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support.

Celebrating Halloween on October 30th with our Buddy Class

This year, students are welcome to wear costumes to school on Friday October 30th. Please ensure that costumes do not include any weapons, references to violence, or masks that fully cover the face.

As a reminder, we ask that families do not send candy or treats to share with the class.

Thank you for your support in helping us maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all students.

School Fees

Students are not required to remain at school over the lunch period, but for any Grade 1-6 or full-day kindergarten students who stay at school over the lunch period, the CBE provides a mandatory lunch supervision service. Students in these grades must be supervised (see Administrative Regulation 3048 – Noon Services and the Education Act for more details), and the lunch supervision fees cover the related supervision costs.

This fee is an annual charge that is divided into monthly installments for payment convenience. The monthly amounts do not correspond to the actual months of service used, but rather support the consistent staffing and administration required to maintain the Lunch Supervision program throughout the school year.

Students who have not been previously registered by the parents, have now been registered by school administration. The fee for the program will be available on the parent MyCBE/Powerschool portals starting October 15.

More information can be found here: CBE Lunch Supervision

The Student Supply Fee is available for payment now on the online portal. This fee applies to all students in kindergarten through Grade 6- it offsets the cost of purchasing supplies like pens, pencils, and erasers so that students have the tools they need learn from their first day in class.

If you can’t afford the fees and would like more information on waivers, please visit here:

CBE Waivers

Waiver applications have to be submitted each year.

Schools typically charge parents for the cost of field trips and buses. Our parent association, the Mount View Home and School Association (MVHSA) has been generously supporting the field trip costs for our students and we are grateful for all the amazing experiences for our students, that are possible with their support.

Video Surveillance System

Our school has a video surveillance system to help maintain a safe and secure environment at the school for students, staff and the public, and to help address vandalism and criminal activity on school property.

The video surveillance system is installed and reviewed in accordance with Administrative Regulation 1066. Personal information is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), specifically section 10(1) and the Access to Information Act (ATIA) .

This technology can be placed in areas such as the school parking lot, building entrances and exits, stairwells and hallways. This information is recorded and collected to help maintain a safe and secure environment in the school and on school property. The users of this information are the principal or designate and  law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.

Inquiries concerning the video surveillance system, or the collection and use of recorded information may be made by contacting the school office.
