Weekly News October 27, 2023
Dear Parents/Guardians,
What a fantastic, snowy week! The first snowfall is always an exciting time of fort building, catching snowflakes on your tongue and making snow angels. This week we offered reminders to students about not throwing snowballs or ruining one another's’ forts-it is so easy to be swept up in the excitement and forget these rules.
Informational Items:
Halloween Celebration
This year, MVS will be having a small, whole school celebration on the 31st. We will be doing a costume parade that ends in the gym. Once in the gym, students will follow along as we have a mini dance party prior to lunch. Students are welcome to wear a costume, or not, if they choose. Please note that costumes cannot have any weapons or violence associated with them and cannot have masks that cover student faces.
If you could also, please abstain from sending candy and treats to share with the class, we would appreciate it.
Safety
When dropping your student off, and picking them up, please use the crosswalk. We cannot ensure the safety of everyone when people are jay-walking to get to school. The area in front of the school is very busy and proper use of the crosswalk, ensures that all pedestrians are visible.
Please also do not cut through the parking lot at any time. This is also a busy space with cars backing up and limited space to do so. Drivers do not expect to have pedestrians crossing through this area and this poses a safety risk. Please ensure you are always walking around the perimeter of the school and not through the parking lot.
Jacket Racket – please donate winter outerwear
Jacket Racket has been providing clean, gently used winter jackets to Calgary children since the 1980’s. The project runs every year from mid-October to mid-November. Coats, snow pants, hats and mittens are collected, sorted and distributed by a group of dedicated volunteers. The distribution is done through the Calgary Board of Education and the Calgary Catholic School District.
Mount View School is collecting only in the month of October!
Leave your donations in the bin just inside the main doors of the school. Thank you so much.
Photo orders
The photo proofs from our October 6 photo session have been sent home this week. Please order online at the Lifetouch portal.
Lifetouch Photography is excited to announce the launch of a new way to access photos online. After much safety and security testing, Lifetouch developed a way for families to access their child’s photo using their student ID number. Go to their website at www.mylifetouch.ca, click on Student ID and follow the detailed instructions to view and order photos. If you have any questions on this ordering process, please call the Lifetouch Customer Care Line at 1.866.457.8212 or access the live chat on their website.
Parents can still access their photos online by using their child’s portrait ID and access code. By enabling the option of using your child’s student ID number, it gives people another way to access photos if they lose their proof sheet.
If your student missed the October session, the retake day is November 1.
Winter weather
Students go outside for recess even in the winter, if the temperature is warmer than –20C including wind chill. Please send your child with proper winter clothing for outdoor activities, ready to play even in the snow. Thank you.
Lunch Hour/Fees
Please send cutlery from home for your child’s lunch. Due to the new Canadian legislation on the ban of single use plastic items, we are no longer able to provide students with emergency cutlery. Thank you.
Lunch supervision registration is now open in your MyCBE/Poweschool account. This is a supervision service provided for students who stay at school to eat their lunch. It is eligible for a childcare tax receipt, these will also be available on your parent account in the spring.
