Dear Parents/Guardians,
We hope that your weekend ahead is as wonderful as our week at school was. Students played in the sun, splashed in puddles (sorry!) and laughed in our school yard.
Please ensure that students come to school each day dressed in weather-appropriate clothing. We go outside twice each day, and students will need hats, mittens, jackets, snow pants, and snow boots.
Please also pack extra clothes in your child’s backpack as there are many puddles and wet ground that the students are exploring.
As the weather is warming up and the snow is melting, we are asking for your help to keep our school clean. Please chat with your children about removing outdoor footwear at the door on the carpet when they come in. Please also model this by removing your own shoes/boots when you come into the building. We really appreciate your help!
When dropping students off in the mornings or picking them up in the afternoons, please ensure that you are following traffic safety rules. We ask that students and guardians use the designated crosswalks when crossing the street and pay close attention to traffic. We also ask that drivers are alert and constantly looking for pedestrians. Parking at the curbside is allowed in front of the school, and we ask that drivers maintain an appropriate distance from the curb to maintain the safety of those on the sidewalk.
Food From the Office:
Please have a conversation with your student regarding the food in the office. There are snacks and, in some cases, lunches available for students but these are handed out on an emergency basis. Office staff ask students what they have already eaten and can supplement if necessary, however, it has become a repeat action for many students who have wonderful things to eat, to come to the office because the food they have is not what they prefer. Please have a conversation with your student about the importance of eating food that is brought from home.
Next year intentions:
If your family is planning to not attend Mount View School next year, could you please email the office and let us know. This will help us prepare for the 2025-26 school year.
Gymnastics:
We are starting our gymnastics unit in our regularly scheduled physical education classes. Students will be working on mats as well as working with gymnastic equipment including the Canadian Climber. Students will work on a progression of skills from mat work to gymnastic equipment, culminating in a Mission Impossible course.
Gymnastics Dates:
March 3-6th - Mat work, Trestle, benches and Canadian Climber
March 10-13th - Mission Impossible Course
Students in elementary school are not expected to change for Physical Education. When participating in gymnastics we ask students to be dressed and prepared to participate. We ask the following be considered:
- Clothing that allows freedom of movement (no special uniforms or outfits are required – sweats and a t-shirt work best)
 - Loose fitting/baggy clothing may get caught on equipment when climbing. No hoodies or dresses please
 - Students may wear shorts under clothing if they wish.
 - All jewelry that could get caught on equipment should be removed (left in classrooms or left at home). e.g. watches, rings, necklaces, etc.
 - Students with long hair must have their hair tied back so that it does not get caught on equipment
 - Students continue to wear proper indoor running shoes

For the safety of all:
- Students work independently or in small groups quietly as noise can distract others and may cause falls.
 - Students must follow all the safety guidelines to participate.
 - Some students may have had private gymnastics training however there will be no aerial stunts such as dive rolls, aerial somersaults or flips, head springs or hand springs as these activities are not allowed by the Calgary Board of Education.

Should you have any questions, please feel free to speak to Ms. Burger or your child’s home room teacher. Thank you in advance for your understanding in helping to assist with the safety of our students.
