Informational Items:
Dressing for the Weather
MVS students are fortunate to go outside every day for recess and over the lunch hour. Though there isn’t any snow yet, our temperature is still quite chilly. Please ensure that students are dressed for the weather with a warm jacket, mitts, toque and snowpants.
Winter Dance Festival
Save the date! Sound Kreations will be coming to work with oaur students and teach them how to dance. The dance festival will showcase the students’ hard work, dedication and perseverance. It is sure to be a high energy event!
The performances (afternoon and evening) will be on December 7, 2023.
Reserved tickets will be sent home with students next week accompanied by an email letting parents know to look for them. If you need to make different arrangements, please contact the office.
Safety
When dropping your student off, and picking them up, please use the crosswalk. We cannot ensure the safety of everyone when people are jay-walking to get to school. The area in front of the school is very busy and proper use of the crosswalk, ensures that all pedestrians are visible.
Please also do not cut through the parking lot at any time. This is also a busy space with cars backing up and limited space to do so. Drivers do not expect to have pedestrians crossing through this area and this poses a safety risk. Please ensure you are always walking around the perimeter of the school and not through the parking lot.
School Fees
Please log in to your MyCBE/Powerschool portal to see the school fees that are due.
Student Supply Fee – this is $20 for kindergarten students and $40 for grade 1-6 students and covers the cost of school supplies. This fee is a central fee and was activated for all students in October.
Lunch Supervision Fee – if your child stays at school for lunch, then they are attending the lunch program and need to be registered in it. Thank you to all families who completed the registration in their portal. Based on attendance in the program, the school has now registered all remaining students and you should see the fees on your account in December.
Waivers – if you need to apply for a waiver for financial reasons, please check the CBE Fees and Waivers webpage. This page can be translated using the icon in the top right corner. Waivers need to be completed yearly. Please contact the school office if you have any questions.

Winter Food Drive
From December 1st to the 20th, we will be collecting items for the Food Bank to help those less fortunate. Classes will have a decorative box for our food train to fill up with non-perishable items. December is a wonderful time of year to encourage students to think about why we make donations and to consider everything they have that others may not.
Popcorn
Place your order on Healthy Hunger before Sunday December 3 https://healthyhunger.ca/index.php
You’re welcome to place an order for as many bags as you like. They make a great snack to enjoy at this year's holiday performance. The kindergarten class will receive their popcorn before they are dismissed and all other grades will receive their popcorn at lunch time.
Winter Craft & Bake Sale Dec 7
We are still in need of donations and volunteers for the Winter Craft & Bake Sale. This is an important fundraiser for the year, last year we raised $1500. Funds raised go towards items that the Casino funds can’t support such as events, teacher discretionary funds, etc…
Note: Drop-off for baked goods & crafts is Wednesday Dec 6. You can drop off donations at the front doors from 2:45-3:30pm. Please include a note identifying the ingredients in the treats, especially if they contain nuts. Please prepackage the treats if possible.
