Welcome to 2026-27 Mount View School Families,
Our theme for the year is rooted in two powerful ideas: self-awareness and regulation. These skills help us understand ourselves more deeply, recognize our emotions, thoughts, and needs, and respond with intention. As educators, we know that when students and adults feel safe and connected, they are equipped to navigate whatever comes their way.
Throughout the year, we will be exploring how greater self-awareness can help us recognize our strengths, understand our stressors, and make thoughtful choices. Alongside this, we will focus on developing regulation strategies that support well-being, learning, and positive relationships. Regulation is about building the tools to understand what we are experiencing and responding in ways that help us thrive.
In our classrooms, hallways, and shared spaces, we will create opportunities for students and staff to pause, reflect, and develop these essential life skills. When students return on Monday, August 31, we will intentionally make space for them to connect with one another and help build our positive school community. By fostering self-awareness and regulation, we are creating the conditions for meaningful learning, healthy relationships, and a strong sense of belonging for everyone.

We will ensure flexibility for students who need extra time to finish eating comfortably.
Staffing Update
This fall, the CBE has hired hundreds of teachers, education assistants and other school staff to support student learning. These positions have been funded by the Government of Alberta with the intention of addressing classroom complexity and class sizes.
We are pleased to welcome additional new staff to our school for the 2026-27 school year:
CCT Teacher: Jody Mckellar
CCT Education Assistant: Tracey Carruthers
CCT Education Assistant: Kuljeet Dakhka
We are very pleased to welcome these new staff members to our school community! This additional staff will help ensure students benefit from:
- Increased teacher attention
- Improved classroom learning environments
- Greater support for diverse learning needs
We are excited to share that Mount View School has a dedicated Classroom Complexity Team. We are especially thrilled to begin the year with a proactive approach, working alongside staff to help students build positive behaviour expectations, develop strong routines, and experience success in their learning and relationships from the very start of the year.
